There is an estimate of 1.1 billion unpublished writers across the world, and more than a million unheard stories. Writers in Africa oftentimes struggle to project their voices amidst popularly celebrated voices across the world. In partnership with the German Cultural Center (Goethe Institut), Lagos, Nigeria, ICON hosted its annual Author’s Talk, to address the theme: Writing, through the Perspective of an unpublished writer.’ The event brought about a crowd of unpublished and published writers to discuss on challenges such as limited resources, rejection from publishers, societal hindrances and financial obstacles, while also discussing proposed solutions to enable arising voices strive.
