Nasarawa: Girls in STEM Mentorship Program

In Nigeria, specifically in the Northern region, where incidents like the abduction of more than 200 girls from a school occurred, STEM is still an uphill task. Women and girls from rural communities are not encouraged to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics for stereotypical reasons that continuously promote the value of males in science and mathematics than the females. ICON North-Central Coordinator; Aliyu Ismail is interested in bridging the gap to identify and mentor girls who are passionate in STEM. He organized a Mentorship Session targeted at young secondary school girls in the science departments to lead, support and provide opportunities that would sustain and develop their interests and knowledge in STEM.
